Commission Faith Formation . . .

The Faith Formation Commission collaborates with the Director of Religious Education to assist in building goals for life-long faith formation opportunities for our parishioners.  The Commission's role is advisory in nature; however, our members are very active in seeking opportunities and acting on them.  Life-long faith formation includes, but is not limited to, sacramental preparation for children and adults, the Sunday Morning children’s religious education program, your ministry, Bible studies, parish retreats, Vacation Bible School, as well as other programs and events planned with deanery parishes.  The commission meets the first Monday of each month.

Sunday Morning Bible Study

Our Sunday morning study group offers various opportunities for parishioners to deepen their understanding of God's Word.  In the fall of 2010, this group will begin the Jeff Cavines Great Adventure study.  The Bible Timeline, which is a 24-week study that allows participants to study on their own, share in small groups, and listen to fascinating lectures that provide insights and explain subties that readers might not otherwise understand.

RCIA

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Audits functions to inform and form adults--those who are unbaptized or those who are baptized Christians, but are not Catholic--in the Catholic Faith and prepare them for full initiation in the Church.  St. Margaret Mary and St. Patrick parishes, in conjunctions with three other parishes in Terre Haute, provide his opportunity to potential parishioners.

RICA Sponsors

Candidates and catechumens preparing for full initiation into the Catholic Church need a sponsor.  They may choose their own or the RCIA coordinator will match them with someone from among the members of the parish.  The sponsor's role is to act as a friend and spiritual companion for the person who is journeying toward full initiation at the Great Easter Vigil.

Small Group Faith Sharing

St. Margaret Mary's faith sharing group provides varied opportunities for communal prayer in a small group atmosphere.  Prayers forms might include naming causes for which to pray, meditating on a particular passage of the Bible followed by participants sharing how the reading relates to their respective lives.  This ministry allows for two-way conversation with the belief of that sharing experiences can mutually strengthen participants' faith through the sharing of faith.

Coffee & Donuts

Parishioners, generally RE parents, volunteer to serve coffee and donuts beginning at 9:00 prior to religious education classes on Sunday mornings.  This allows time for socializing, building community, as well as welcoming guests, visitors and new parishioners.

Children’s Faith Formation

Our Sunday Morning Religious Education Program is a means of teaching and forming the children of our parish.  While the children who typically participate in the program are elementary and middle school students who attend public schools, we welcome any child.  Preparing our children for the sacraments is an important part of this program.  Ultimately, we hope that this formation will encourage our young people to become active members of the parish community.  The program runs from August through April on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:45.  Each month, throughout the RE year, selected classes have the opportunity to participate in the children's liturgy-filling roles as lectors, greets, gift bearers, and singers in the children's choir.

Catechists

Catechists provide learning for our children and you (and adults through the RCIA, Bible Study, etc.) so that all may grow in our faith.  Catechists are especially important for our children, preschool through 12th grade.  The ministry allows individuals the privilege and responsibility of sharing their knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, their Catholic faith with our children.
